Teacher and student relationship is an important part of a child’s development. Jan N Hughes, Clinical Psychology and Educational Psychology Ph.D and professor at Texas A&M University published a study where she concludes “that the provision of a supportive teacher-student relationship promotes students’ behavioral adjustment and academic achievement.” In her study, she found that this support system can is an asset beginning from preschool all the way to secondary school. In fact, other studies point out to students being better self-directed, motivated, engaged, and socially connected to their school and community when they have positive relationships with their teachers.
