Scrolling through Instagram, you start to see the same poses over and over again – it starts to make us miss the olden days, when people used to take pictures of each other. At least it was less repetitive! Here are 11 of the worst selfie trends that absolutely must go.
1. The Belfie
Kim and Kylie, we’re looking at you for starting this crude trend. It is a selfie of one’s bum, just as it sounds. The highlight isn’t really the face, in this one – girls love to do it in jeans or bikinis posing in an ass-jutted-out position that’s all about angles. It seems like you’re just showing off when you do it, and it’s not that creative.
2. No Makeup Selfie
Tyra Banks and Alicia Keys love this one – #nomakeup has gone too far. Since when did not wearing makeup and posting it to the world become a noble and humbling act? we know plenty of girls who do it every day! And we know you’re just yearning for comments on how good your skin is.
3. Just Woke Up Selfie
This is kind of similar to the no makeup selfie, showing you have the “courage” to post pics of your early morning squinty, crusty eyes. But usually, the girl has already put on a full face of natural looking makeup and feigns that she #wokeuplikedis. Remember that scene in Bridesmaids?
4. Car Selfie
Girls do this one to show how fresh their makeup is on the way to work, or maybe there’s some great sun-drenched lighting, or maybe the seatbelt makes your boobs look bigger. But we’re kind of worried about safety on this on, and that it might signal a selfie addiction. Can’t you wait till you get to where you’re going?!
5. Duck Face Selfie
Apart from making your cheekbones look more legit, this is a pretty stupid pose. Everyone from your favorite IG model to your celebrity crush has done this one, and it’s getting tired.
6. Kissy Selfie
Another cheekbone definer, this is equally annoying as the duck face. Especially with the hand blowing kiss, this is a favorite of VS models, but us normals should try to not attempt it, because it makes our faces look like Finding Nemo instead of a sexy kiss.
7. Shy/Hand Over Face Selfie
This eye-roller is done either two ways: with your full hand covering your face, made popular by annoying teens in clubs that think hiding their face is edgy. Guys, you are not Sia.
