Why You Should Be Using Lube Even If You’re Wet Enough

When it comes to having sex, there are always a few things you should have handy before getting down and dirty. Condoms, sex toys, and yes, even lube. They can all help make your sexual experience that much better. It’s obvious that condoms are necessary, especially if you’re sleeping with someone new. Sex toys are up for debate— no they’re not completely necessary, but can significant increase the amount of pleasure you give and receive. And as far as lube as concerned, some might think it’s not completely vital to sex and see it as something only women who have trouble getting wet down there need. But the truth is, using lube can be beneficial regardless of whether or not you think you need it.
What do you think?

Embarrassed. A lot of couples avoid using lube during sex for one reason— because they’re too embarrassed to admit they like it. Or, they’re too ashamed to be seen buying it in public. However, nothing about sex should be awkward or weird to talk about.

Lube. Using lube is usually correlated with anal sex, using sex toys, or for women who may have a hard time getting wet down there. While it’s true that lube is primarily used for all of the above, that shouldn’t be the only times you’re using the stuff.

On a schedule. The truth is sometimes your mind and body aren’t in sync. So while you may be turned on during a particular sexual encounter, your body has yet to get the message and it might take some time for you to get blood flow down there. But if you’re on an a schedule and don’t have time for foreplay or you’re simply impatient, here’s where lube comes in.

Nature. “It’s not like a light switch you turn on and off. The physiological nature of arousal means it can take some time to become naturally lubricated,” says Dr. Alyssa Dweck, as reported by Self.

Doubling up. So yes, lube can come in handy when you’re in a hurry. But lube can also be used even if you are wet enough down there. If you’ve never used it before, you probably don’t realize that double the moisture down there means double the pleasure.

New sensation. “Some women use a store-bought lubricant because they have issues with vaginal dryness, but many other women use lubrication simply for a new sensation during sex,” Dr. Sari Locker tells Self.

After orgasm. A lot of women find themselves getting a little nervous about pain down there. For one, if you’ve reached orgasm and your partner still hasn’t, you’re likely to lose lubrication down there. But fear not, lube is here to save the day.

Sweet relief. “Using a store-bought lubricant can help relieve anxiety you have about that. With the added lubricant, you can enjoy the pleasure of penetration, and your mind will be at ease, too,” says Locker, as reported by Self.

Anal. If you’re wanting to switch things up and are looking to try something new, you can always use lube during anal sex. This type of penetration can be rather painful the first few times, so using lube is a great way to ease your way into it.

Recommended. “The anus does not self-lubricate the way the vagina does. For any anal play or anal sex, lubrication is recommended for pleasure and safety,” Locker tells Self.

Masturbation. Although great for sex with a partner, lube can also be used for some one-on-one time. That’s right, lube is perfect for masturbation. Squirt some on a toy or your fingers, and go to town. It’s also a good way to experiment with different types of lubes so you can figure out which one you like best and be ready to experiment with a partner.

Variety. “You may crave variation during masturbation, particularly if it’s your only sexual outlet. Some women try warming or tingling lubricant, or even use it with sex toys for masturbatory variety,” says Locker, as reported by Self.

Varieties. There are dozens of varieties of lubes for all kinds of pleasure. You can experiment with a heated one that warms up upon contact, or even different flavored ones that can make sex much tastier than you’re used to.

Try it! At the end of the day, there are virtually no cons to using lube, so even if you’re extra lubricated down there, why not try it out just for the hell of it? You won’t regret it!

You. What’s the best part about going to the water park? It’s slippery. It’s wet. And the same goes for sex with lubrication, whether you need it or not! Do you use lube for sex? What do you like about it? Let us know what you think!
